Do we become wiser as we get older??
Looking back in history to the Great Empires of the Romans, the Greeks, Ancient Tribes and the like, they all took advice from the ‘Elders’. They were held in high esteem, as being wise and knowledgeable.
Nowadays however, maybe as a result of the technology explosion, there seems to be a feeling that younger people have a better understanding of the future.
Certainly, in the dealership, we need young fresh energetic ideas, but we also need the experience of age, because, unlike technology, people haven’t changed that much and most issues that need resolving all revolve around people!! Whether it’s single use plastic, climate change or electric vehicles, it’s all down to people’s habits.
Whilst changing habits might be a great idea, there will also be consequences, and this is when I believe we should look to those with age and experience, or the ‘Elders’ for advice! In many cases they will have experienced similar things in the past, as we all know only too well - even flares and maybe tank tops will come back into fashion, it’s just a matter of knowing when.
“We respect our elders. There is wisdom that comes from experience, and I am not going to stop learning from wise counsel.” Marcia Fudge
