A family business...
We often hear of businesses which refer to themselves as ‘a family business’, mine included - but what does that mean? Is it a business run by a family, or a business that treats its staff and customers like a family??
Having just had the delight of seeing my son get married this week, along with my step-daughter, her husband and their daughter, I enjoyed first-hand a great family celebration. However, I also feel I have another family, the ‘business family’, where we all try to pull for each other, fall out a bit, like all families, but still back each other with support and help when it’s needed! So, that’s the sort of business I have worked hard to build, one which helps all the members to improve their lives.
Sharing the highs and lows, ups and downs, is all part of life, but certainly, having great families around to enjoy the good bits and support each other through the difficult times, we can all benefit with friendship and as a result, we can deal much better with whatever life throws at us.
“Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible - the kind of atmosphere that is found in a nurturing family.” Virginia Satir
